Re: This Metalocalypse episode should have been dedicated to me
I can't see the appeal of Metalocalypse.
I find myself the same way I did with Tailspin: thinking this could be a good show if I wasn't trying my damnedest to figure out what the hell is going on.
Maybe if someone here (I know there are a few fans) can explain the background, I could enjoy it more.

I don't follow the background, but fuck, there's a shitload of autofellatio references and that should be good enough for you.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.
Re: This Metalocalypse episode should have been dedicated to me
HA I thought about that
METALOCALYPSE is so fuckin awesome it hurts.
I can explain it real quick.. DethKlok is a death metal band- in the odd "dimension" the show takes place inside of, they are THE band. They are like the most important thing on earth.
NOW- DethKlok are just like Spinal Tap basically, only at the height of their "popularity"- they just want to be the most brutal band ever and are basically succeeding on that count. They are functionally and socially retarded and they all have pretty major issues. This is where it gets kinda complicated...
Apparently, there's some ancient Sumerian prophecy involving a group of "individuals" that bear fairly striking resemblances to DethKlok (in one episode they visit South America and there's a weird Mayan mountain that they don't notice, but which is like Mt.Rushmore only with their faces carved into it presumably thousands of years ago, so it seems as if several diferent ancient cultures shared this notion)
The prophecy states that this group of individuals will bring about the end of reality by way of a "Metalocalypse". DethKlok knows nothing of this, despite the fact that they appear to have supernatural powers of massive destruction when they perform, usually killing hundreds to thousands of people, re-activating volcanoes, causing hurricanes, tidal waves etc. They don't see anything unusual in all this.
There is a group called the Tribunal, formed of what appears to be some US government-type guy, a US General, some Pope-style guy and a few others, lead by a shadowy character named Mr.Selatcia. They SEEM to be at odds amongst each other- Mr.Selatcia seems to have a vested interest in keeping DethKlok alive but monitoring them VERY closely. The other subordinate members of the group seem bent on actually killing Dethklok, which is a no-no with Mr.Selatcia (who, from various little things that have happened throughout the show, is some kind of Demon or something, he has demonstrated insane powers in a few instances)
This is about all that has been "explained" so far.
OH and on Dethkloks side, their "manager" Charles Ofdenson. His background is also clear as mud- he takes care of their day-to-day affairs, but is also aware to some extent of the cosmic shit going on, and is also aware that the Tribunal exists- what his relationship to any of them is remians a mystery. Ofdenson also is DEADLY in hand to hand combat, despite wearing a suit and looking almost exactly like Stephen Colbert
Haven't seen the end of season 2 but I know it's a fuckin monster

Re: This Metalocalypse episode should have been dedicated to me
I have DVD's of this sitting on my shelf downstairs unopened. My illicit lover (shhhhhhhh) bought them along with dire shite like Tripping the rift and stripperella. so after watching TTR I decided to hold off watching Metalocalypse.
I have never read any of your posts, but from what I can learn I should say that for people who like the kind of posts you deliver, they are just the kind of posts such people like.

I only ever saw a bit of both of those shows, which looked terrible. Metalocalypse is much better (though I don't follow it very much at all).
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.
Re: This Metalocalypse episode should have been dedicated to me
never heard of tripping but the name makes me cringe with it's "now-ness" so I would bet is sucks. Striperella sucked SO hard it should have resulted in executions
METALOCALYPSE is simply excellent, being a metal-head as I am I (not to be soundin conceited by ANY means) I probably "get" a LOT more jokes than the average person would notice.
Weirdest part is I think "death" and "black" metal totally blow but I can listen to the DethAlbum constantly, on account of how they use the genre to almost make fun of itself in the slickest way. "Go into the Water" is one of the most epic tunes EVER, especially when taken in the context of the RIDICULOUS climax of season one("The Metalocalypse has Begun"), the disastrous "one time only" performance of the whole "DethWater" album in the gulf of Danzig where they get attacked by "fans" lol
there's a site called broadcaster dot com that has the whole first season available for viewing, watch them in order and it'll make perfect sense- or at least as much sense as it's made up to this point
As for standalone episodes, "DethTroll" would probably be the best one to "get" without having to know the whole story

double post bite me
FINALLY saw the entirety of the end of season 2 last night. That "JJL special" episode is SO wrong man, I'd only seen little bits of it but DAMN.
I think my fave part is Pickles' admission- I guess from now on you shall be Pickles, JJL, even tho you upped the info sans imminent death

I'm fine with that, I think.
