Football

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

Yes, I am already tired of hearing about Favre.

On an unrelated note, I will probably rename my team.

Yeah, Favre needs to make a fucking decision and stick with it already. What a piece of work that guy has become.

Brett Favre might want to invest in his own cell phone
By MJD
It's not as poetically idiotic as Chris Henry getting arrested while wearing his own jersey, but this one's in the same neighborhood.

Remember those tampering charges that the Packers filed against the Vikings? And remember how I thought it would be difficult for the Packers to prove that Favre had made inappropriate contact with the Vikings?

Well, that assumed that Brett Favre wasn't using a Packers-issued cell phone to make those calls to the Vikings. As it turns out, Favre may have done exactly that.
From the Minneapolis Star-Tribune:

...Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had an interesting bit of information in a piece he wrote about the quarterback today.

McGinn writes that a source said Favre had continued to use a Packers-issued cell phone and that when the team checked the phone records it found “repeated calls to coach Brad Childress and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.”

The possibility of Favre having used a phone issued by the Packers had been speculated on last week after the Associated Press reported that Green Bay informed the NFL it felt “an investigation of the phone records would show more than ‘normal contact’ between the Vikings and Favre, even before he formally asked for his release to play for another team.”
In fairness to Favre, it should be mentioned that any phone calls he made to the Vikings were made in a gunslinging fashion, and through the entire conversation, he looked like a kid out there, just having fun.

Say this turns out to be true, and tampering by the Vikings can be proved. And say that the Packers do what they're expected to do, and block Favre from playing for the Vikings. Favre could end up costing the Vikings draft picks and fines while never playing a down for them, while also putting the Packers in this miserable position.

Give him a couple more weeks, and he might just find a way to tear down the entire NFC North.
Do we chalk this one up to the Madden Curse? Instead of getting injured, Favre just goes brain-dead.

okay, let's just all calm down a bit over these sports "scandals".

YOU PLAY A GAME FOR A LIVING. IT'S NOT FUCKING NATIONAL SECURITY HERE! IT'S A FUCKING GAME! WHY IS NO-ONE AS UPSET ABOUT OUR OWN FUCKING GOVERNMENT TAPPING PERSONAL PHONE CALLS AS THEY ARE ABOUT A FUCKING GROWN CHILD CHEATING AT A GAME???

I quit caring about the government a long time ago and expect politicians to be dishonest.

I watch sports because it isn't politics. When I precieve a sport gets too corrupt, like baseball, I quit watching it. This appears to have helped out my fantasy baseball team because I've finished first (lost in the champoinship game) and won a championship since I quit watching.

i guess i can see that. but to fool yourself into thinking all sports are legitimate to begin with is a bit gullible. chances are the star quarterback at your high school cheated in some way. it's not that hard to believe it would continue into the "profession".

I can't argue with that. I like to think hockey isn't as bad as football because of the money and overall mentality of hockey players versus that of the football players. Personally, if a guy talks to another team after he "retires" but is still under contract, I find it much less depressing that watching anything on the local or national news.

By the way, my high school football team sucked. Actually, all of the boys teams sucked. Maybe they didn't cheat enough. Our girls kicked ass. The gymnastics, field hockey, and soccer teams all won championships.

I hope McNabb has a great year, as I drafted him in my big league that I am in each year.

Addai and Portis should clean up for you, Burress is a good receiver with lots of potential (should he get/stay healthy), Shockey should have a good year with Brees chucking him the ball (again, should he get/stay healthy) and the Chargers Defense has been steller the past few years, especially last year.

There is a lot of hope for that team yet RII.

Here is who I drafted the other night in my big league (as taken from the other site):

Starters:
QB - Donovan McNabb
RB - Marion Barber (KEEPER)
RB - Maurice Jones-Drew
WR - Larry Fitzgerald
WR - Greg Jennings
WR - Justin Gage
TE - Chris Cooley
K - Phil Dawson
D/ST - Seattle Seahawks

Reserves:
QB - Eli Manning
RB - Chris Johnson
RB - Maurice Morris
WR - James Hardy
WR - Bobby Engram (was my starting WR3, but found out he was injured after I drafted his ace, usually I am on top of this stuff , I do have Gage (Ten #1) and Hardy (Buf #2) to fill in, which isn't so bad).

This league is on NFL.com. I wasn't really ready for the draft, but they had yellow boxes next to the player's names similar to yahoo's. For some reason, I missed that there are 3 starting WRs, and I picked Brees before I picked my 3rd WR.

I'll be ready for our draft...maybe.

My interest in football this year is at an all-time low. It's likely because my teams (Bears and Michigan) are going to win a total of 10 games combined.
