My daughter has awesome tastes in music
She's not even two yet, and here are some of her favorites:
Paul McCartney (we didn't even try this one--she was playing with the remote control and turned by accident to a concert by him on PBS, then started dancing)
Led Zeppelin
Tom Petty (especially American Girl)
Queen
the Speed Racer theme (probably her favorite--she'll run into the room to dance if she hears that one)
Maybe we can avoid the "Whatever Has Replaced Hannah Montana" trend in 2016.

Re: My daughter has awesome tastes in music
Hasn't heard it yet. She was watching Queen Rock Montreal (AKA We Will Rock You) a couple of weeks ago on PBS and loved it. That concert's from '81 (I think) and doesn't have any of the later stuff. It does have "Under Pressure," but nothing else from Hot Space; IIRC, that single was released first on a Bowie album several months before Hot Space came out, so that sorta makes sense.
She is slightly allergic to dairy, so we're avoiding A Kind of Magic and its massive amounts of cheese for now.
BTW, refresh my memory: do you have Innuendo yet?

No, I don't have Innuendo. I also don't have Jazz, Flash Gordon (a likely pass), Hot Space, The Works, The Miracle, or Made in Heaven (gonna pass on this one too). So I think it's all downhill from here.
I have the Queen Rocks Montreal from PBS on my DVR. It's quite good, but did he really need to break out the short shorts?

Re: My daughter has awesome tastes in music
Innuendo is one of their best albums.
Jazz started their downhill trend, but still has a lot of really, really good music on it.
Flash Gordon seems to appeal more to non-fans of Queen. I don't care much for it aside from "Flash's Theme." It's one of the favorite albums of all time for a friend of mine who hates Queen otherwise.
Hot Space is the biggest pass of all from these guys. "Body Language" and "Under Pressure" are the only two things worth having.
The Works is pretty good, but most other fans seem to like it more than I do. Songs like "Hammer to Fall" and "I Want to Break Free" are pretty essential.
The Miracle is underrated. It's like they tried to do one last great album, a couple of years before Innuendo, and didn't quite pull it off. Some of the songs are great, but the ones that aren't, really arent.
Made in Heaven is kinda a mixed bag. Like one song is by The Cross (a lackluster Roger Taylor side group) from around 1985 that guested Freddie on vocals. Only they wiped the tracks by the other band members and replaced them with Brian and John. One was obviously unfinished, and is the only track to feature lead vocals by all three singing members. (I can't think of a single note I've heard from John, like ever.) Another was a track from Brian's first solo album, but with Freddie singing. Some good stuff in there, but it all seems cobbled together and a little rushed.
One of the best songs by Queen ever, by the way, is "Lost Opportunity," a really bluesy b-side from Innuendo, sung by Brian. Another is a b-side from The Game called "A Human Body," sung by Roger, and better by a long shot than "Rock It (Prime Jive)" which actually made the album. There's another called "Soul Brother" that's written by Brian, which I've never heard, but the title and writer together make me think it is probably a gem.

Re: My daughter has awesome tastes in music
Wow, reading this thread makes me feel foolish, because when I was a little kid, the only music I "rocked out" to was shit from Disney movies.
Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.
Re: My daughter has awesome tastes in music
The guys go apeshit when the "Little Einsteins" theme plays. Like, seriously fucking bananas. They jump and rock and (I was amazed to see this the other day) count backwards from five when the time comes.
They also like the Christian stuff my wife listens to. Its not my first (or eighth) choice as far as good music goes, but I suppose there are worse genres for a two year old to be listening to. They very obviously got their moves and rhythm from me. I hope the years are better to their dancing skills, otherwise its "hello, awkward school dances" for them.

We saw (finally!) The Triplets of Belleville yesterday. She seemed to really like that French-styled music, too.

that's hysterical about the countdown...Antropov wrote:The guys go apeshit when the "Little Einsteins" theme plays. Like, seriously fucking bananas. They jump and rock and (I was amazed to see this the other day) count backwards from five when the time comes.
julia loves fraggle rock. she literally went over to the shelf with the box set and was pining for it to be taken out and played, so i did. she tries so hard to say it, but it comes out 'frock'. and then she just screeches at the top of her lungs when the dvd menu and opening credits come on.
Life is short. STUNT IT!

And you laugh every time, don't you?vynsane wrote: julia loves fraggle rock. she literally went over to the shelf with the box set and was pining for it to be taken out and played, so i did. she tries so hard to say it, but it comes out 'frock'. and then she just screeches at the top of her lungs when the dvd menu and opening credits come on.
Kind of like when Hannah will see a semi or a bus and, in an effort to say "big truck", shouts "big COCK!". Funny at home, not so much when people are around. Hayden shouted, "Oh, shit! Jesus Christ!" at Walmart the other night. Had we been at home I might have laughed (to myself at least), but I was freakin' embarrassed, especially since we try really hard to watch our mouthes around them.

yeah, i do chuckle, but then i try to have her say the full words and she looks at me and goes 'frock' like, 'that's what i said, dumbass!'Antropov wrote:And you laugh every time, don't you?vynsane wrote: julia loves fraggle rock. she literally went over to the shelf with the box set and was pining for it to be taken out and played, so i did. she tries so hard to say it, but it comes out 'frock'. and then she just screeches at the top of her lungs when the dvd menu and opening credits come on.
hahahhaha! that's awesome... my best/longest-running friend (jdr3) couldn't say 'fire truck' when he was a kid. his sisters constantly asked him to say it and would burst our laughing when he said 'fire fuck'.Kind of like when Hannah will see a semi or a bus and, in an effort to say "big truck", shouts "big COCK!".
