Re: Marvel Universe
New Avengers Annual #2 might well turn out to be the comic of the year - and it's only February 2nd. Really, really good book with art by some new Dude that should make Lenil Yu say.... "Now THAT's how I should be drawing the Avengers, Oh Yes!" The Hood leads a massive group of baddy bad dudes in an all-out assault of the Strange mansion!

Re: Marvel Universe
2nd arc of Brand New Day started off, Larocca's art looked fantastic. First ASM appearance of Jackpot as well, and the dynamic between she and Peter (should that be her and Peter? Didn't look right.....) was quite good, surprisingly enough.

Re: Marvel Universe
Every once in awhile, comics make me smile by doing something bizarre but enjoyable. I just saw the preview for Mighty Avengers 10 over at ComicNewsIntl. Click on the pages and witness a welcome throwback to Marvel of the late 70's early 80's. Pay attention to the blurbs at the bottom of the pages. Even the panel layouts by Bagley are retro. I'm not sure, but this might be Bagley's last issue at Marvel ( I'm not sure if the story arc has one more issue left or not) and it is a hell of a fun way to end his stellar career there on.

Is he "done" done, or just going to DC exclusively for awhile?

Re: Marvel Universe
I'm not even reading it, and I thought that came out like three months ago.
I think Bags signed an exclusive contract with DC. He's doing a book called "Trinity," which stars Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.
Yeah, I have no fucking clue either when it comes to why DC makes such a big fucking deal about that stupid-ass Amazon. "Batman, use your martial arts prowess and incredible intellect to subdue Joker. Superman, your super strength should make short work of Brainiac. And I'll fly up to Cheetah in my invisible jet and tie her up! Now, Cheetah--tell the truth!!"
C'mon, the bitch can't support a monthly title for more than a few months, everyone thinks she's stupid... why has she been immune to Dan Didio's rash of seemingly pointless deaths?

Re: Marvel Universe
HAD that come out already??? I was surprised when I read it, but maybe it was brought up before. My memory is obviously the shits - I do better when I save a bunch and read them all together.
Wonder Woman can be done well. I have the first George Perez issue (one of a bazillion #1s, I'm sure) from the 1980s and it's a pretty good book from what I recall. It's all about the creators these days, more so than the characters. Warren Ellis has proven that he can take the dregs of Marvel and make them great - be nice if they gave Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee a crack at her. I'd buy it - and I might even read it, too.

Re: Marvel Universe
So the Marvel Universe topic is now a Wonder Woman topic? For shame.
But as long as we're on the subject, Wonder Woman has no definitive origin like Batman and Superman. She has no defining goal. Batman is avenging the murder of his parents by ridding Gotham of crime. Wonder Woman is...eh...what? Seriously, what is her "thing"? her "shtick"? Since she has no defining "thing" every writer that comes in tries to come up with a new "thing" and none of them are memorable.
yeah, Wonder Woman sucks. But you can't blame DiDio. The "no touching the big three" comes from somebody higher up the food chain than him.

Re: Marvel Universe
Uhhhh..so Warlock showed up in this week's issue of Nova. Not Adam Warlock, who is currently possesed by Ultron in the Annihilation crossover. I mean New Mutants Warlock.
Huh?

They've killed Superman before and nearly killed Batman with seemingly good and bad results.Rollo Tomassi wrote:yeah, Wonder Woman sucks. But you can't blame DiDio. The "no touching the big three" comes from somebody higher up the food chain than him.
And if you believe the rumors ol' Bruce'll pushing up daisies later this year.

Re: Marvel Universe
I read Grant Morrison wanted to kill him, but Warner Bros said no.
Probably better. It's far more important that Morrison make all the stupid-ass 1950s sci-fi stories be canon backstory for him, anyway.

I had a look and you were right, Chux. We found out Sharon was pregnant in issue 30. It appears my memory has stopped functioning.anarky wrote:I'm not even reading it, and I thought that came out like three months ago.

Re: Marvel Universe
So Wolverine and Maya (in a cool costume - is it new?) battled a Skrull to a standstill in New Avengers 39! It had Nightcrawler's porting, Johnny Storm flames and wanted to whack Maya and take her place!!!! Oh, then Hawkeye fucked her but that was after.
I'm looking forward to Secret Invasion 1 next week, this is the coolest idea for a mega-crossover-super-event they've had for a LONG, long time.

Re: Marvel Universe
Just a blurb about EP's FF comments - 556 wasn't a great issue, but I think the Millar arc has been interesting so far. Hopefully it's all going to factor into Secret Invasion somehow... but maybe not. The parallel earth could be used for some cool things.

Re: Marvel Universe
Thor #8 - Marco Djurdevic's covers are sweet. HIs interior pencils are UNREAL. This was not a great comic by any stretch, but the art was amazing. Too bad, but I'm thinking my interest has run out on the new Thor.
Hulk #3 - similar comments - I'm just not "feelin' it" with this book. 3 issues in, and I have no real urge to find out who the Red Hulk is. Ever since Bruce Jones left, the Hulk has been less & less interesting. Another book I'd consider dropping.
Mighty Avengers #12 - here's a good one. Cool Nick Fury story that catches us up on what he's been up to over the past few months. A role he'll play in Secret Invasion, oyes.
