2008
In honor of the dearly departed EP, the tradition continues. Which movie will rule the Box Office this year? Vote for what you think will win (or what you want to win). I think it really boils down to a two man race between Indy and Batman. I'm going with Batman.

Re: 2008
Two weeks ago I might have said "Harry Potter", but I'm sure now loads more people besides Batfans and harcore moviegoers will flock to see Heath Ledger's final performance, so "Dark Knight" I guess. I'm sure the top three will consist of Batman, Indy, and Harry Potter, with Iron Man not far behind.
Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.
Re: 2008
I choose The Dark Knight. The first, Batman Begins, was an excellent movie that reignited the Batman franchise and sparked a shit load of new and familiar interest. The unfortunate death of Ledger is just icing on the cake, as morbid as that may sound. I think The Dark Knight has a good chance to break some records.
"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

Indiana Jones is a bit more iconic as a film franchise, though, methinks. Like Star Wars, it'll attract billions who haven't even cared about the property in 20 years.
I would love TDK to stomp it into oblivion, though.

Well, for one thing, "Batman Begins" is more fresh in peoples' minds. Second, "Indiana Jones" isn't quite like "Star Wars", because "Star Wars" was still immensly popular when TPM came out. Sure, Indy has a huge fanbase, but it's not as big as "Star Wars" or even Batman's (not talking about the films, just Batman in general). Third (and probably most important), "The Dark Knight" has had a strong campaign for almost a year now, with the viral campaign and two trailers already, plus a five minute sneak preview in IMAX. And the trailer that came out last month just blew everyone away. As of today, January 30th, all "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" has is a few production stills and a teaser poster. No trailer, not even a teaser. Sure, one is supposed to come out in two weeks or so, but from the description, it sounds like 40% of that trailer is comprised of clips from the previous movies. That would have been fine in November, but the movie's just short of five months away and all we've got now are some LEGO sets that aren't even from the fourth movie, with more stuff from the original movies soon to follow. Sure, people are aware that there'll be a new Indy movie, but it'll be hard to see the average Joe getting excited about it if there isn't much of a marketing campaign. And it seems like they're waiting for the last minute.anarky wrote:Indiana Jones is a bit more iconic as a film franchise, though, methinks. I doubt it. There's a whole lot of right-wing nutjobs who are boycotting it because they decided to add a few foreign members to the team. Besides, that's not until 2009 anyway.

I'm boycotting it because they added Marlon Wayans to the team.

No, he's a different kind of nutjob. I never said I wouldn't be boycotting G.I. Joe either, but the thing that bothers me the most is that Cobra Commander's being played by the "3rd Rock from the Sun" kid.Sleazer wrote:anarky is a right-wing nutjob ?
