movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.
TORONTO (Hollywood Reporter) - After slipping on a mask for Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire might be slipping into a giant robot for "Robotech."
After a lengthy negotiation, Warner Bros. Pictures has picked up feature rights to "Robotech," a 1980s Japanese cartoon series with giant robots known as mechas. Maguire is eyeing the lead role, and will serve as a producer.
"We are very excited to bring 'Robotech' to the big screen," Maguire said. "There is a rich mythology that will be a great foundation for a sophisticated, smart and entertaining film."
A sprawling sci-fi epic, "Robotech" takes place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off three successive waves of alien invasions. The first invasion concerns a battle with a race of giant warriors who seek to retrieve their flagship's energy source known as "protoculture," and the planet's survival ends up in the hands of two young pilots.
The $686 million worldwide box office success of "Transformers" has inspired other studios to assemble giant robot movies. Last month, Fox-based Regency picked up 1980s Japanese anime series "Voltron."
Maguire hopes there aren't as many Robotech fans as there are Transformer fans because that way, fanboys won't be crawling up his ass to bitch him out for fucking up the story.
This is actually pretty cool- considering the US Carl Macek version of "robotech" was a total mish-mash of 3 series and was accepted for what it was by the die-hards of the time, there's not much that could fuck this film up- I liked the series but don't have any kind of huge attachment to it- and the Zentraedi should be fun if they're done right...
Wonder if Maguire is platin Roy Fokker or Rick Hunter??
I hope you are kidding about Stiller playing Fokker. That would suck. HE isnt the type to play that character.
Maguire should be Hunter, no argument there, thats the role he is best suited for. I wonder who will play Max Sterling or even how far into the story they will go or if even they will do the three parts to the story. If they do the masters series, they have to introduce Max because the Masters focus's on his daughter.
Someone let me borrow a VHS tape with a bunch of episodes on it a long long time ago. If I remember right, it was Japanese, but dubbed in English. I really don't know much about Robotech. I bet this movie is better than Robot Jox.
Does that article infer that Fox is going to make a Voltron movie, too?

I didn't catch that at first, but you're right. That could either be great or horrible news. Voltron was one of the greatest shows of the 80s (and not a 1980s Japanese anime as that idiot broad Newsbot seems to think).
John Malkovich as Lotor. That would fucking rock.
