NEW YORK - Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards said he would create an international organization to fight terrorism through shared intelligence, cooperation he says would combat the dangers facing the United States where President Bush has failed.
The 2004 vice presidential candidate also said he would be prepared to invade Pakistan to eradicate terror cells if necessary, even after rival Barack Obama was widely criticized last month for making a similar pledge.
"We need a counterterrorism policy that will actually counter terrorism," Edwards told an audience at Pace University. "We've got to throw away the failed George Bush policies of the past, and move in a bold new direction."
Edwards said his envisions a Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, known as G.I. Joe. It can be a Brussels-based outfit and consist of an international co-ed force of operatives who use hi-tech equipment to battle any evil organizations headed by a double-crossing Scottish arms dealers.
When asked how he was going to get a dysfunctional United Nations to buy into this idea, he said, "Watchu talkin' 'bout?" He also could not explain how he was going to motivate any other country to participate in any sort of anti-terrorism force.
